About Xiaomi
Xiaomi entered the irrigation market with its typical approach: products with good technical specs at very competitive prices. The Mi Flora Plant Sensor has become one of Europe's best-selling soil moisture/light/fertility sensors thanks to a combination of accuracy, Bluetooth connectivity and low price.
For smart-home and home-automation enthusiasts, Xiaomi products integrate easily with ecosystems like Home Assistant, enabling advanced automations. A Mi Flora connected to Home Assistant + Rachio or to a smart relay can fully automate the irrigation of pots and indoor plants.
Xiaomi does not make actual sprinklers or multi-zone controllers for buried systems, but for those managing pots, balcony vegetable gardens or small gardens in a smart-home context, Xiaomi sensors are an excellent entry-level choice.
One quirk of the Xiaomi model worth knowing: many Mi/Xiaomi-branded products, including the Mi Flora, are developed by partner companies in its "ecosystem chain" rather than by the parent company directly, and support runs through the general-purpose Mi Home app — the same one used for light bulbs, air purifiers and dozens of other categories — rather than dedicated gardening support, unlike brands natively specialised in irrigation such as Hunter or Rain Bird. It's worth choosing consciously as an affordable entry point for plant monitoring, not as the technical base for an irrigation system you plan to maintain and expand for years.
