Netro is a Californian start-up founded in 2016 with a clear vision: use machine learning and AI to make irrigation completely automatic and optimal. The flagship product Sprite is a smart controller that learns soil behaviour over time, adapting schedules not only to weather forecasts but also to local precipitation history.

The real philosophical difference from Rachio shows up when you combine the three products in the range: the solar-powered Whisperer sensor, with no wires to run, continuously measures soil and moisture and feeds the same AI engine used by the Sprite controller and the Pixie tap timer, which connects directly to home WiFi with no separate hub needed. Rachio leaves more manual control over scheduling rules; Netro aims to remove almost every decision from the user, at the cost of less transparency about what the system is doing at any given moment.
